Being held…

Today is Five Minute Friday — the day that bloggers from all over write for five minutes on a word prompt.  Five minutes of writing with no corrections, no back tracking — just writing hard and fast.

Today’s word is: Hold.

Go!

This morning as I sipped my coffee and browsed my Facebook feed to see what awe-inspiring thoughts all my friends had to share, a verse popped out at me — Psalm 37:24. I promptly grabbed my bible and there it was highlighted for me to see:

“…though he stumble he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”

When I was going through a very dark time in my life — a time when my then-husband chose to walk out — I felt so alone. But God did an amazing work in my heart — He led me back to Him.

And on that journey back to the Lord I found myself in the Psalms. What a comforting book of the bible.

After too many years of abuse which led me to have no good thoughts about myself, to think of myself as lowly, not beautiful or worthy — the Psalms showed me the Truth.

Throughout the Psalms the word hold is used a lot. God upholds the righteous; He holds the hand of the weak; He is a stronghold for the oppressed.

God HOLDS us when we are weak, being cursed, being abused — and when we just don’t feel beautiful or worthy in this life.

And He has indeed held me. And the wonderful thing — He has never let go! He holds on even when I loosen my grasp at times, when I walk away for a while, or when I wander aimlessly, feeling lost.

The truth is — we are never lost and are always held by the One who is a forever constant in our lives.

So hold on — life may be bumpy, it may through curve balls, it may bring illness — but He holds us throughout it all.

Stop!

May we all remember Who holds us and may we never lose sight of the fact that even in the stormiest, darkest times of our lives there is a Light we can hold onto — a Light we can hold up for all the world to see.

“If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”  ~Psalm 37:23-24

Blessings!
